RESTRICTED FREE AGENCY
All contracts are good for one season. After the conclusion of the ARBYS Finals, all players become Restricted Free Agents and may be dropped for no cost to their team.
Teams may re-sign their own Restricted Free Agents prior to the next season’s draft at a cost of their current contract + $1M for every $50M in the ARBYS Salary Cap, starting with $3M for $100M in salary cap (see RFA chart below).
EXAMPLE:
The 2017-18 Salary Cap is $121 million, which makes the RFA Signing Bonus +$3M. Andre Iguadola is drafted for $13M. For his team to keep Iguadola prior to the next season’s draft, he must be re-signed at $16M ($13M original contract + $3M RFA Signing Bonus).
RFA Signing Bonuses are cumulative from year to year.
Any Restricted Free Agent acquired via trade prior to the draft must be given the requisite RFA Signing Bonus by his new team and kept through the conclusion of the draft.
Any player not signed to a Restricted Free Agent contract becomes an Unrestricted Free Agent and enters the Free Agent Auction Draft pool.
RFA DEADLINE
The RFA DEADLINE is when rosters become set for the annual Free Agent Auction Draft. At 10 p.m. EST September 30, players may no longer be dropped into the free agent pool. Any player left on a roster after the deadline is given a new Player Contract for the coming season with a salary equal to their previous year + RFA signing bonus (see above).
*Note: Injured Reserve spots must also be cleared and G-League rosters must be legal at this time. See those sections for relevant details.
Teams may not keep more players than they can afford under their Salary Cap. Any team that goes over its Salary Cap at the RFA Deadline will have players dropped by the League Commissioner, starting with the lowest salary, rookies included, until the Total Team Salary is under the Salary Cap. Players with equal salary will be dropped alphabetically by last name, first name. In addition, a (1) category win penalty will be applied to their team’s Week 1 score for every player dropped by the Commissioner. See Sec. 003 (Honor System) for more information and an example.
